EASTON – An integral part to a child’s success in school is to make sure they have proper classroom supplies. As The Center for Specialized Dentistry works to bring smiling faces to the community, it also realized that parents who struggle to put food on the tables, pay for clothing for their children and more, would also not be able to provide school supplies for their children.

The Center’s new staff member, Demetrio Beach, who is responsible for communications and patient relations contacted Easton Elementary school in July and asked what the greatest needs at the school were. The school rep shared that Kindergarten school supplies were the greatest need and any way the Center could help would be appreciated.

So this August the Center launched the “Fill the Backpack” campaign in their e-newsletter to patients asking them to join in the efforts to create Kindergarten backpacks for local students. Some patients dropped off supplies, some gave funds for the Center to purchase the supplies, and some even challenged Dr. John Louis to match their donation to fill another backpack if they filled one. The challenges were accepted and the staff members also filled a backpack for a student.

Dr. John Louis, a resident of Talbot County who raised his three children in the school system and the Center for Specialized Dentistry owner shared that, “too many children in our communities here in Talbot County have little to no access to the fundamental tools they need to learn effectively. Too many teachers are spending money out of their own pockets to make sure the students have what they need. We have decided to partner with Easton Elementary School (Dobson) this year to be of help to the school principal Dr. Lisa Devaric, teachers and students. We care about the community we work in and it is our obligation to keep our community healthy and help with its needs.”

On last Wednesday afternoon, Easton Elementary principal Dr. Devaric and Family Liaison, Mrs. Emily Moody stopped by the Center for Specialized Dentistry and picked up the backpacks. Dr. Devaric gave her thanks and appreciation and that she is looking forward to partnering with Dr. Louis this upcoming school year.

Beach shared that the Center for Specialized Dentistry is just getting started with their community involvement. More fun and exciting partnerships and outreach will be taking place the rest of this year and next year in 2018.
